15-0202 v2.1/Mosaic Center for Conscious Community & Commerce/Can An Interior Vertical Wall Be Included in the Area Calculation
Currently, in the design, there is outdoor in-ground and raised bed cultivation of produce, as well as tree-based food production.
However, as our growing season in Edmonton is quite short, the building will have an interior vertical wall for food production as well. The intended use is for food production, to supply to the restaurant in the building with edibles throughout the year. A company will be contracted for long-term support of the interior system, and to maintain the health and production of the plants. A harvest plan will be developed.
Can this interior vertical wall be included in the area calculation?
Yes, interior vertical plantings would be included in the area calculation. See p.18 of the May 2013 Site Petal Handbook for how to calculate vertical plantings.
