17-0602 v3.1/Systems Furniture vs FF&E

QUESTION

Is there additional guidance on what classifies as "office systems furniture"? We have a number of stainless steel food prep tables that are not an integral part of the building but as we are not a traditional office environment where is the distinction between systems furniture that must be included and FF&E that does not need to be documented?

ANSWER

While we appreciate your attention to the intent and recommend eliminating toxins in food surfaces, stainless steel food tables that are not permanently affixed to the building are considered FF&E and do not need to be vetted for Red List. Regarding electrical appliances, only hardwired appliances and stand-alone appliances that require a dedicated power circuit (220 volts or higher) must be vetted for Red List ingredients; other appliances are considered FF&E.
