15-0819 PVC Wiring in Lighting Fixtures

Question:

We are requesting an exception for "PVC wiring in light fixtures." We have been successful in obtaining transparency and red list compliance for the light fixture housing, and ROHS compliance for the electrical components. However, many of the manufacturers use PVC wiring as a standard and are unable or unwilling to offer an alternative. If an exception applies, please advise what would be considered acceptable documentation.

Answer:

PVC Wiring in light fixtures may be used under I10-E1 General Red List provided that your team has demonstrated due diligence by contacting a minimum of three manufacturers. The team must provide the required Exception Documentation per the v3.0 August 2014 Materials Petal Handbook (MPH p17-18).
