Just Small Organizations Resource Guide
PURPOSE
The purpose of this document is to provide general guidance of the Just process for organizations with sizes from 1-10 employees.
Please note that this resource is a highlighted, consolidated version of what is already included in the Clarifications section of each Indicator of the Just 2.0 Handbook and Just 3.0 Program Manual. Please refer to the Just 2.0 Handbook and the Just 3.0 Program Manual for more detailed information and guidance on each Indicator.

BELONGING
ORGANIZATIONS WITH 10 OR FEWER EMPLOYEES
Since preserving survey respondent anonymity can be especially difficult in a smaller respondent pool, organizations with 10 or fewer employees are limited in their performance levels for this Indicator. The organization’s label will indicate that the higher performance levels are not applicable.
ORGANIZATIONS WITH ONE EMPLOYEE
Single-member organizations are limited to Level 1.
ORGANIZATIONS WITH TWO TO 10 EMPLOYEES
Organizations with two to 10 employees are limited to Level 2 if they choose to use the Small Organizations alternative compliance path. ADVICE AND SUGGESTIONS FOR SMALL ORGANIZATIONS
- Review each Indicator’s Clarifications section in the Just 3.0 Program Manual for additional notes on guidance and limitations for smaller (1-10 employees) organizations
- We will develop and post on our website a Just 3.0 Small Organizations Resource Guide by the end of the year
- Start developing policies based on our templates (see Just 3.0 Program Manual > Written Policies)
- Document what you are already doing well. As a small organization, sometimes there are not many policies in place at all. By going through the Just process, some good practices can be documented and made into formal policies. Remember, it’s not about achieving a certain level of performance—it’s about a community of practice around continuous improvement towards equity!
- Check back in for Just 3.0 database policy examples by other organizations
- We are currently considering developing a Just 3.0 folder of example policies per Indicator to share with organizations by the end of the year
- Review smaller organizations’ policies in the Just 2.0 database for reference
