The Institute is creating a new Exception to address the current lack of alternatives to PTFE in certain manufacturing applications:
I10-E25 PTFE in High Performance Applications
Polytetrafluoroethylene is allowed in industrial metal coil coatings and ancillary plastic components where high heat, friction and impact resistance is required for product performance and when the manufacturer has demonstrated there are no alternate Red List free suppliers to meet the performance criteria.
The project team must provide a letter from the manufacturer stating the function of PTFE in the product and outlining the research into Red List free alternates.
